01. What is the Orthodox Church?

In a nutshell...

The Orthodox Church is the oldest and second largest Christian faith in the world.

In 1054, Christianity experienced a separation known as The Great Schism. This was the first division among Christians since Christ established His new covenant.

The Western Church of Rome had begun adopting their own customs and eventually considered itself to be higher in authority than the 4 other Patriarchs in the East. Thus, after many years and many differences, they parted ways. The Western church became known as the Catholic church and the Eastern church became known as the Orthodox church.

After time many pious members of the Catholic church began to realize that many things were not in agreement with the Scriptures and teachings of Christ, and so the Catholic church was divided again and again. Instead of these pious Christians returning to the Orthodox Church, they began their own religions. Because of the distance between Rome and the Eastern Church, many of those people had never heard of Orthodoxy.

The Orthodox Church has never separated and after 2,000 years continues uninterrupted in the exact customs and beliefs that were handed down by Christ himself to His disciples. Many people who visit the Orthodox Church for the first time say that it is like traveling back in time.

02. What is the Holy Mountain you mention in your story?

The Holy Mountain, or Mount Athos, is a peninsula located in Northern Greece. It has been the home to Orthodox monks and monasteries since St. Peter the Athonite in the 9th century.

When he crosses paths with a holy monk, he decides to accompany him on a mission from God to a strange and distant land. Along the way seeds are planted, and he learns lessons in faith, forgiveness and following his heart.
